INSULATION AND INDUCTANCE TESTING OF THREE PHASE SQUIRREL CAGE MOTOR

Insulation tester is used to measure insulation resistance and inductance. It is used to test electric motor windings up to 1000 V.

To demonstrate starting of threee phase squirrel cage motors, the following contactor system is applied: direct on-line starter, star-delta starter and soft starter. Asynchronous motor can be mechanically coupled with another asynchronous machine, therby forming the system of a prime mover and an asynchronous generator.

In order to perform multiple tests on a three phase squirrel cage motor, the following drive system is used: three phase squirrel cage motor and brushless permanent magnet motor. Both are connected to the common bus via frequency converter. In this configuration the squirrel cage motor is controlled by speed and brushless permanent magnet motor is controlled by electromagnetic torque.

TESTING OF SYNCHRONOUS GENERATOR

For synchronous generator testing the following drive is used: synchronous generator and a DC motor, both coupled on the same shaft. In this connection the DC motor represents the prime mover, which is speed controlled via its drive system. The generator cubicle is equipped with a synchronoscope, automatic voltage regulator (AVR) and power factor regulator. Generator can operate in paralell to the utility network or in island mode.
