New Naval Architecture Study Programme Presented at the University of Debrecen – Faculty of Engineering

The presentation was attended by around 100 second-year Vehicle Engineering students from Hungary and abroad.

Representatives from the University of Rijeka’s Faculty of Engineering recently visited their partners at the University of Debrecen in Hungary. The trip was a chance to present a new part-time vocational undergraduate degree in Naval Architecture, focusing on Yacht Design & Construction.

The presentation was attended by around 100 second-year Vehicle Engineering students from Hungary and abroad. Because the new study programme is designed to meet the demands of the modern maritime and yachting industry, the event provided an ideal platform to highlight the specialized educational opportunities available in Rijeka.

The hosts from the Faculty of Engineering gave the Rijeka delegation a tour of their academic and research facilities, including the mechanical engineering and mechatronics labs, as well as the Vehicle Research Center. It was a good opportunity to share experiences and compare how practical classes are handled.

The main goal of the visit was to strengthen the partnership between the two faculties and encourage student exchange. Under the current plan, students from Debrecen will be able to spend their summer semester in Rijeka enrolled in the Naval Architecture study programme starting in 2028.

The visit to the Faculty of Engineering in Debrecen was also supported by the Kvarner Region Tourist Board. Students and staff received promotional materials about the Kvarner Region and watched the award-winning three-minute promotional film “Make Your Own Movie”, which highlights everything the region has to offer. This combined approach helped present the Kvarner Region to future engineers as an ideal destination to study, work, and live.

We want to thank our colleagues in Debrecen for their hospitality, and we look forward to working together on future projects.
