On September 17, 2026, the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Rijeka hosted the 10th edition of My First Conference. The international scientific conference was co-organized by the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Civil Engineering, and the Faculty of Maritime Studies of the University of Rijeka.
For a decade, this one-day event provides doctoral candidates and master’s students in engineering and technology with a practical platform to present their early research. The conference is designed to help early-career researchers practice their presentation skills in an international setting, receive constructive feedback from senior colleagues, and build interdisciplinary networks and collaboration across different academic institutions.
The event opened with welcome remarks from Prof. Lado Kranjčević, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Prof. Domagoj Lanc, Vice-Dean for Science at the Faculty of Engineering; and Prof. Goran Vukelić, Vice-Rector for Strategic Projects (Faculty of Maritime Studies). They highlighted the importance of supporting young researchers at the start of their academic careers.
Young researchers from the region and abroad presented their research findings, with all accepted abstracts published in the official MFC Book of Abstracts. Furthermore, authors of selected papers were invited to submit full-length articles to the academic journals Engineering Review and Scientific Journal of Maritime Research „Pomorstvo“.
